FORT LARAMIE-GENERAL VIEW
Established by the Army in 1849 on the site of an early fur fort.
For forty years, it served a west-ward-expanding nation, as
point of supply and protection for emigrants and a prime base
for campaigns against plains Indians. Site of emigrant camp-
ground in foreground. Protected and interpreted today by the
National Park Service, Department of the Interior
