The Apache Indians were until recently the most
warlike of all the Southwestern Indians and have
caused the government of the United States as well
as the early settlers, no end of trouble. Today, with
their number fast diminishing and with several forts
on or near their scattered reservations with the rail-
road as an ally, the government has no trouble with
them and the Indian has turned his talents to the
weaving of baskets and plaques and is at last enjoy-
ing the fruits of his labors in peace.
