A Frontier Relic, Pittsburg, PA. About the year 1750, it became necessary to provide for the safety of the frontiers, as a protection against hostile Indians. A chain of block houses or stockades was therefore built across Pennsylvania from the Delaware to the Alleghany mountains, thence to the Ohio at Pittsburg. The Old Block House at Pittsburg has been preserved as a monument of those perilous times when settlers were want to flee from the savages and seek mutual protection within the walls of these frontier posts.
