| The Madeiras are a group of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean, belonging to Portugal. The inhabitants are of Portuguese decent with probably some inter mixture of Moorish Negro blood among the lower classes. Their mode of conveyance in the larger towns is primitive, Oxen drawn sleds which move quite smoothly over the hard and even loam roads. |
