Additional Details:
Bienville Square was named for Jean Baptiste LeMoyne, Sieur de Bienville, who founded the city at its present site. In the square is a monument to his memory erected by the Colonial Dames in 1906, in the form of an immense granite cross. The centre of the square is ornamented with a fountain, the gift of the late Dr. Ketchum, who established Mobile's waterworks system.
