century old oaks, cedars and magnolias, the fabled
fountain of Don Juan Ponce de Leon still bubbles
forth. He was followed by Don Pedro Menendez
A. D. 1565, who laid the foundations for St.
Augustine, and built here
the first
permanent
Christian mission in North America.
On April 13th, 1934, an Indian burial ground
was accidentally discovered, which is centuries old
according to reports of archaeologists. More than
100 skeletons can be seen with beads, pot shards,
etc., found with them. The burial ground covers
between one and two acres of land.
