The Cedar Sentinel on Mill Rock.
This historic landmark is one of the original forest
trees, having been spared by the Colonists in 1635,
when they cleared the land for wheat fields. Beneath
the Rock is a huge cave once inhabited by Witches,
so the legend goes, who threw Fire-brands at the
passing Stage-Coach. Later it was the home of “old
Si” an Indian basket-weaver, one of the last of the
Narragansett Tribe.
