This historic landmark is one of the original forest trees, having been spared by the Colonists in 1635, when they cleared the land for wheat fields. Beneath the Rock is a huge cave once inhabited by Witches, so the legend goes, who threw Fire-brands at the passing Stage-Coach. Later it was the home of “old Si” an Indian basket-weaver, one of the last of the Narragansett Tribe. 6270
