Convent of Mary Immaculate
Additional Details:
Founded in 1878 and long considered the most beautiful educational building in Florida, the Convent of Mary Immaculate has played an heroic part in the history of the city. It was thrown open as a hospital during the yellow fever plague and many of the nuns perished along with their patients. During the Spanish-American War it again became a hospital and its interesting museum is enriched by many gifts from grateful patients. The grounds are a treasure-trove to botanists.
