The Tavern was built in 1745 on East
Chestnut Hill, Litchfield, and removed in
1923 to its present site on Toll Gate Hill,
in Litchfield. It was reopened to the public
in 1937, and meals are now served in the
old tap room and dining rooms, and special
parties are accommodated in the ballroom.
The Tavern is furnished throughout with
authentic American antiques of the period.
Across the drive stands one of Connecti-
cut's oldest Schoolhouses, a little gambrel
roof building, erected in 1789 in Berlin,
Connecticut, and removed from that town
in 1926 to Toll Gate Hill.
Early American Furniture and Decora-
tions are for sale, also old books and prints.
