Perfectly aware of the imminent end, he invited those present to sing the hymns of fascist Italy and exclaimed: "You will say for me to the Duce that I have given all I could and I am sorry only that I can not give more." Per- fettamente conscio della imminente fine, invitava i presenti ad intonare gli inni dell'Italia fascista e spirava esclamando: «Direte per me al Duce che ho dato tutto quello che potevo e mi dolgo solo di non poter dare di più»).
