Head of Comet Brooks - Lick Observatory
Additional Details:
This conspicuous naked-eye comet, discovered by William R. Brooks of Geneva, New York, appeared in 1911. Shown here is the coma and detailed structure of part of the tail. The tail is directed generally away from the sun as the result of pressure of solar radiation acting upon the ejected solid particles from the nucleus. Photographed with the 36-inch Crossley Reflector. Lick Observatory Photograph From the Darlene Thorne Collection |
