CLARK GABLE. 'M-G-M.
Clark Gable, who was born in 1901, is one of the most successful
exponents of "he-men” roles. Forsook a business career for
the stage and played several years in repertory before he achieved
a Broadway reputation in "The Last Mile. Made film debut
as an extra, and eventually won recognition for his performance
with Norma Shearer in “ A Free Soul.” Won the 1934 Academy
of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award for the best per-
formance by an actor, for his work in “It Happened One
Night.”
