CALIFORNIA'S WELCOME TO THE FLEET
This Souvenir Postal Card readily represents
its significance; it has Admiral R. Evans picture
encircled with chain of anchor and American flag
in center; on left side you will notice California's
ocean shore; at a distance the fleet coming round
one by one, the flagship Connecticut leading, and
greeted by Miss California, who sits in artistic
pose writing her welcome to the Fleet, 1908. At
the very foreground are California poppies, repré-
senting the State.
The rope around this postal is very suggestive,
but the meaning of it is for you to guess.
