Built at Newport News, Va., by Newport News S.B. Co. 450 feet long by 76 feet 10 inches wide. Mean draft 24 1/2 feet. Displacement 16,000 tons. Speed on trial 18.82 knots. Horsepower 20,748. Launched August 27, 1904. Commissioned June 2, 1906. Complement 41 officers and 840 men. Two military masts and three funnels. Main Battery-Four 12-inch B.L.R. in turrets and eight 8-in B.L.R. in superposed turrets, also twelve 7-in B.L.R. in broadsides. Secondary Battery-Twenty 3-in. R.F., twelve 3-lb. S.A., two 1-lb. A., two 3-in. F, and two .30 caliber M guns. With four 21-in. submerged torpedo tubes. Fitted as a flagship. Made trip from New York to San Francisco.
