WELCOME
HEROES
MARLEN EPEW.
A proud, though bloodless victory's won;,
A feat attained; a service done.
The golden Western sun in glory gilds
The white ships that a mighty nation builds
To shield us from the wolves of war.
II
The hemispheres that split the seas
Undaunt such splendid ships as these.
High on the masts the peace doves gladly ride,
But far o'erhead the screaming eagles glide,
Assuring peace bý show of power.
III
So tip the cup to Evans crew;
The men in gold, the boys in blue.
A dozen thousand miles from coast to coast;
A brilliant proof-to all the world a boast
Of strength of East and West alike.
