GILROY, CALIFORNIA-City Hall at 6th and Monterey. Built
in 1905 it was the ultimate in architectural splendor. Its
"gingerbread" embellishments survived the 1906 earth-
quake and at that time it housed the Fire Department and
Jail with the horse stalls in the rear. It is still the seat of
the municipal and some county offices and although some-
what crowded the citizens of Gilroy are reluctant to raze
this resplendent edifice so closely associated with the his-
tory and growth of the community.
