U.S. ARMY ELECTRONIC PROVING GROUND Head-
quarters Area, Fort Huachuca, Arizona—The Fort
was started in 1877 by Capt. Samuel M. White-
side, commanding Co. B, U.S. 6th Cavalry, while
protecting white settlers against marauding In-
dians under the notorious chiefs Geronimo and
Natchez. Since then it has served to train troops
for our war with Spain, the Philippine Insurrec-
tions, the Pancho Villa affair and World Wars
