Echinocereus Engelmannii, or Strawberry
Hedgehog. A low growing cactus, in solitary
or clumps of stems up to 1 foot high. Its
flower ranges through all the variety of reds
from pink to violet, and is about 31/2 inches in
diameter. A luxurious bloomer in March and
April. The fruit resembling a large straw-
berry is edible, and much prized by the In-
dians because of its luscious flavor. Common
to Arizona.
