THE CHURCH OF EL CHRISTO REY
(Christ The King)
This church, although built as late as 1939, is one of the
finest examples of Santa Fe-Pueblo architecture. The white
stone reredos, or back altar, is its choicest treasure. The
reredos were originally placed in Santa Fe by the Spanish
Governor del Valle during the 18th century in a church
which stood at that time on the South Side of the Plaza.
This altar has some of the finest specimens of Ecclesi-
astical sculpture in the Western Hemisphere.
