SILVERTON, COLORADO
Silverton is one of the nation's richest mineral areas. Over
the years, more than $500,000,000 in silver, gold, lead and
zinc has been taken from its mines, and it is rel iably estimated
that an equal amount still remai ns undiscovered . Because of
difficult market conditions, however, the mining industry has
suffered conside rably. The Pri de of the West, in fact, is one
of the last operating mines. But Silverton has other natural
wealth. On three sides is beautiful San Juan National
Colere Card
Forest--over two million acres of stately aspen, pine and fir
trees. In this region it is common to see deer and wild turkeys
from the road.
