PRESIDENT GARFIELD MONUMENT in the Cemetery of the
old mining camp of Bodie, California.
A subscription was raised to erect a monument to William
Bodey, discoverer of Gold on Bodie Bluffs in 1859, and
who had perished in the snow, but befo re the inscription
placed on the monumènt, President Garfield was
assassinated. Feelings ran so high for the martyrd presi-
dent, the monument was erected in his memory
