CHARLTON HESTON
starring in
"THE WAR LORD"
A Universal Picture
Charlton Heston stars as a mercenary Norman knight
who has a tragic love affair in Universal's "The War
Lord.” Mr. Heston was born in Evanston, Illinois, later
moving to St. Helen, Michigan, where he attended
school. His early choice – at the age of five - of an
acting career came as the result of appearing in a
school play. After graduating from Northwestern Uni-
versity, Mr. Heston began his professional acting
career by working in a number of daytime radio shows
on various Chicago stations. In 1948 he made his
Broadway debut as a member of Katherine Cornell's
“Anthony and Cleopatra” company. Charlton Heston
became one of the first Broadway actors to achieve
marked success on television, playing leads in “Studio
One" and other top dramatic programs. He made his
movie debut as Anthony in "Julius Caesar." Cecil B.
DeMille then signed him to “The Greatest Show on
Earth” and Charlton was on his way.
He keeps in good physical condition, plays a 'driv-
ing game of tennis, and wishes he could find more
time for horseback riding. He prefers symphonic
music, doesn't like most modern music, but is a con-
firmed Bing Crosby fan, reads novels and biographies
by the score, reads newspapers thoroughly, including
the comics. Katherine Cornell remains his favorite
actress, and he considers Sir Laurence Olivier one of
the world's greatest actors. He's a deft artist and often
sketches between scenes when working on a picture.
