The Memorial Stadium, Berkeley built in 1923 at a cost of $1,025,000 from funds secured by sale of ticket scrip for seats covering games 10 years in advance; can seat in excess of 80,000 people. It is a memorial to the sons of the University of California who fell during the World War.
