DISTRIBUTING THE PORTER'S LOADS.—Just be-
fore the march begins, Cuninghame verifies the
packing and binding of the important pieces of
luggage, and sees that an equitable distribution of
the loads is made. Each porter then puts down his
allotted load in front of him, waiting for the signal
to start.
