TSAVO BRIDGE. The Uganda railway crosses the
Tsavo river by the Tsavo bridge. This is in the jungle
region of the coast, and the lions here were remarkably
belligerent when the railway was being built. They
actually contested the building of the bridge and
the railway, killing many of the workmen, even invad-
ing freight cars and dragging workmen from their
bunks. Finally a hunter had to be brought into the
country. He shot several lions and the workmen re-
gained courage and went on with the building of the
road. In the region on the Uganda railway Ex-presi-
dent Roosevelt bagged the most big game.
