The Tiger is the largest and most dangerous
of the Felidae, exceeding the Lion slightly in
size, and far surpassing him in destructive-
ness. Although possessed of immense strength
and ferocity, the Tiger rarely attacks armed
men unless provoked, though often carrying
off women and children, and having once
ta'sted human flesh, become a confirmed man-
eater. The natives destroy the Tiger by traps
and poisoned arrows, but the sportsmen, seat-
ed on Elephants, shoot them. This šport is
exciting, but dangerous.
