The Farman Biplane
Additional Details:
One of the greatest and most sensational flights on record was that of M. Louis Paulhan's from London to Manchester at the end of April, 1910, by which he won the "Daily Mail" prize of 10,000. This magnificent cheque was presented to the fortunate recipient in a golden casket. The journey was made in two stages in a Farman Biplane. Mr. Farman (a naturalized Frenchmen of English parentage) came to England to watch the flight, and as an aviator himself decidedly stands in the front rank. Many of his flying experiments were originally performed in the Voisin machine, but he eventually perfected a machine of his own which proved its reliability in long-distance flights.
