The St. Louis City Hall, located on 12th and 16134
Market Streets, facing Memorial Plaza, was con-
structed from 1890 to 1904 at a cost of $1,650,000.
The style of the architecture is an adaptation of
French Romanesque.
It is one of the outstanding buildings of its kind
that could hardly be duplicated today. The
first mail ever carried by air left in a balloon
from the City Hall Square, July 1, 1859.
