This picture was taken in 1890. In 1853, five men worked 15 days to cut this tree just to see it fall. While they had gone to Averys to get whiskey to celebrate. the tree fell. Later the stump was used for a dance floor, where 60 people danced at one time. From the Darlene Thorne Collection |
