Fort Bridger, on Highway U.S. 305 in southwest Wyoming, was named for Jim Bridger, discoverer of Great Salt Lake and well-known pioneer, trapper, fur trader, scout and guide. It was established as a trading post in 1834 and served as a military post on the Overland Trail from 1858 to 1890.
