Products
The principal products of the valley are raisins
Grapes, oranges, lemons, olives, peaches,
Berries, barley, wheat, oats,
Alfalfa, milk, butter, eggs and poultry.
It is usual to harvest 6 crops of alfalfa each year.
This Valley is the natural home of the raisin grape.
Water
All crops, except grain and grapes, are
Irrigated, either from the San Diego Flume,
Which supplies most of the high lands, or from
Individual wells and pumping plants.
The average depth of these wells is 35 feet.
The average flow is about 8 inches. No. 1
Distillate, a California product, is the fuel used
In pumping, and costs 11 cents per gallon
Delivered at the pump.
Soil
The soil generally is sandy loam and
Decomposed granite, and varies in different
Localities. The best citrus fruits are raised
The slopes, the higher ground being
Less liable to frost.
