suring 5' 4" thick at the base. Inside diameter at the
top is 60'. 20,491 sacks of cement were used in build
ing the 5000 cubic foot concrete base, with the mor-
tar for bricklaying requiring 42,354 sacks. 2,466,392
various sized large brick-the equivalent of 6,672,214

house brick-a re in the stack. The stack
common
weighs 23,810 tons. Smoke went up the stack for the
first time on May 5th, 1919.
