Additional Details:
This trading center is located on highway 395 at the Tioga Pass turn off. The town takes its name from Lee Vining who was an early day miner and operated a saw mill in the canyon around 1863. Tioga is an Iroquois Indian name that means "Where it forks." This settlement was called Lakeview, but when a post office was established the name was changed to Lee Vining as there was another Lakeview in the State. . M.P. Photo - color by Merle Porter
