Lee Vining, California
This trading center is located on highway 395
at the Tioga Pass turn off. The town takes its
name from Lee Vining who was an early day
miner and operated a saw mill in the canyon
around 1863. Tioga is an Iroquois Indian name
that means "Where it forks.'
was called Lakeview, but when a post office
was established the name was changed to Lee
Vining as there was another La keview in the
state . . M.P.
