Flatiron Bldg. Photograph shows foxtail, annoying Mediterranean weed immigrant. One bearded seed dropped into a tiny sidewalk crack. It sprouted. A single head contains some 30 seeds. This plant had over 300. Like foxtail, human weeds came to USA from the Mediterranean, East Europe. Governments there dumped on us their social inadequates. Sicily was combed by Mussolini's police. All without registration cards automatically were deported as criminals. Choice: desert-island prison, like France's Devil's Island, or passport ot Havana or Vera Cruz. Latter, scarcely-disguised bases for USA entry. During nearly 20 years, an Alien Registration Act was introduced yearly into Congress. Passage prevented by Hyphenates. These insisted same was "insulting" to their fellow country men, aliens, but residents here. Only coming World War II brought enactment. Today these same hyphenates demand end of Quota Acts.
