The Bisbee Deportation of 1917
Additional Details:
Arrest and deportation of 1,300 striking mine workers, supporters, and bystanders by 2,000 members of a deputized posse. The action was orchestrated by the Phelps Dodge Mining Company, which provided a list of workers to the Cochise County sheriff. They were arrested, and held at a local baseball park before being loaded onto cattle cars and transported 16 hours through the desert, to be dumped across the New Mexico border.
