MISSION OF SAN JUAN DE CAPISTRANO
(THIRD MISSION). BUILT 1731. But little remains
of this old stone mission whose corner stone was laid March 5th,
1731. It is now roofless, but its large, square gates still stand,
z and there are traces of the gorgeous colors in which it was so
wonderfully frescoed. The mission had no bell tower but the
front walls were extented upward, and the bells hung in arches.
