The revolution of Texas against the government of Santa Anna of Mexico, started n 1835, at which time San Antonio had a population of 7,000. The fall of the Alamo, March 6th, 1836 (when Travis, Crockett, Bowie and 180 brave Texans perished), and the battle of San Jacinto, April 22nd, 1836, ended the rule under the Mexican flag, and the "Lone Star of Texas" was born. The annual celebration of "The Battle of Flowers" on April 22nd is in commemoration of the latter event.
