The Volcano Kilauea has been at-
I most continuously active as far back
as tradition traces; has been visited
by many thousands of persons in
comfort and safety, and never dis-
appoints. Kilauea is a great pit,
5 about 4,000 feet above sea level. In
depth it is about 600 feet below the
great lava plain around it, and from
which its walls drop in sheer pre-
cipices. The circumference of the
crater is 7.85 miles.
