Ralph Waldo Emerson was born at Boston, United
States of America, on May 25th, 1803, his father being
a minister in that city. He was educated at the
Boston public Grammar School, and at the early age
of ten was translating "Virgil " into English verse.
He graduated at Havard College in 1821. Following
in his father's footsteps he espoused the church and
became a minister of the Second Church in Boston in
1829. He resigned his charge, however, in 1832. He
was a great and original writer of prose and verse.
Some of his principal works are "The Conduct of
Lite," Society and Solitude, '" "Letters and Social
Aims," "Poems and Essays." He aied on April
27th, 1882.
