Additional Details:
Wasco bears the name of Indian tribes once living here. Wasco County once extended from the Cascades to the Rockies, but subsequent division has left Wasco town located in Sherman County. At this point many immigrants traveling the Oregon trail turned north to reach the Columbia River via a canyon called "Spanish Hollow". A post office of that name established in 1870 was changed to Wasco in 1882.
