Welcome To Benson, State Highway 86 & U. S. 80
Additional Details:
Benson was founded in 1880 as the railroad town for Tombstone. As early as 1860, however, its site was famous as the spot where the old Butterfield stages crossed the San Pedro. For years it was the American end of the old Sonora Railroad, built by the Santa Fe in 1882 to reach the harbor of Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico. This road also served the Tombstone Mines' large mills at Contention City and was the nearest railroad connection to Fort Huachuca. |
