Newcomers to Alaska are usually the only ones
naive enough to take jobs on the Trans-Alaska
Pipeline. At only $500.00/hour, cleaning 800 miles
of pipe year-round can get a fella dirty and
exhausted. Dissatisfied with the low pay and
stinking of petroleum, many move on to higher-
paying positions as dishwashers or stockboys.
