Martin Myers, pieces painted in the form of
skyscrapers, acrylic and rhoplex on particle board,
120" h., August 4-21, 1975.
Behind these works is a multifarious idea. To
diminish the importance of the image, I have chosen
images that are visual cliches without inherent meaning
or value. Through the process by which anything placed
in an art context becomes elevated, these images
become totems and revered symbols. All the image
information is revealed through the painted surface.
The paint distorts the dimension of the forms,
destroying their monumentality. To a limited extent,
they are paintings masquerading as objects.
