SCOTTY'S CASTLE
DEATH VALLEY RANCH
Show place of Death Valley took 10 years to build and cost 2
million dollars. Built in its entirety on a spanish motif.
Everything on the inside is as lavish as it is on the outside. Up
grapevine canyon are 6 springs producing 200 gallons of
water per minute year round. Enough water to turn a
generator for electricity production at the castle. There is no
shortage of water, fresh air, sunshine or grapevines at
Scotty's Castle. There are thousands of railroad ties behind
the castle; brought into be used as firewood in the 14
fireplaces of the castle. It was discovered that the ties were
full of creosote and when burned produced an unpleasant
odor and thick black smoke. The freight bill for the railroad
ties was $25,000! All construction ceased with the economic
disaster of 1929. Several projects are incomplete.
