Back:
The Dalles-Celilo canal, the completion of
which is to be commemorated by an elaborate fete
at Lewiston on May 3, cost the government five
millions of dollars. It has been under course of
construction since 1906. It is eight and one-half
miles long, with minimum depth of eight feet.
There are five locks, each 300 feet long and forty-
five feet wide. The completion of this great
waterway enables boats to run from the Pacific
ocean to Lewiston, five hundred miles. This al-
lows the assembling of crafts from all important
points at Lewiston for the water fete and celebra-
tion.
