Yerba Buena, meaning in
Spanish, “good herb," is the
most conspicuous island in San
Francisco harbor. On the east-
ern portion of the island, facing
Oakland, are located the magnifi-
cent stone buildings of the U. S.
Naval Training Station. On a
rocky bluff, at the most south-
erly point, is a lighthouse and a fog whistle.
