Keene Store is a familiar landmark on California 58 in the
mountains between Bakersfield and Mojave near the famous
Tehachapi Loop. The original structure, dating from about
1920, has at various times served as school house, private
home, Post Office, and boarding house for miners. Store,
restaurant and service station are operated by Ed and Ethel Melton.
