MORRO BAY - MORRO ROCK
Morro Bay is located behind the rock by the same name.
Morro (Spanish for headland) Rock, sometimes called the
"Gibralter of the Pacific," rises 576 feet above the shallow
lagoon impounded by sand dunes. The town is a year-round
resort with water sports on the smooth waters of the bay.
Sport fishing boats operate from the docks that line the shore
line of the bay. Digging clams is a sport in season, along the
sandy beach. The downtown area is complete with stores,
cafes, and motels. Thousands of people stop here over-night
on their way to Hearst Castle (see other Royal Post Cards on
the history of Castle) or on their trip to Carmel and Monterey
by way of highway one ... M.P.
