PLACE
MORRO BAY
This lagoon-like bay was once a hide out for Yankee
smugglers who would not pay the high duty on goods
shipped into Spanish California. The 576 ft. high rock
(Morro Sp., headland) is a great pile of trachyte
(volcanic rock). This was an area where Spanish lived
in great grandeur. Bull and Bear fights were popular
along with cock fights. Today there are sport fishing
boats operating out of the bay..M.P.
