country non-stop flight, New York to San Diego, May 2-3,
1923, in 26 hrs., 50 min.
OF 1903 - 1928
Aida de Acosta Breckinridge, world's first woman pilot of
powered aircraft, flew the airship of Santos-Dumont over
Paris, June 29, 1903.
Tryggve Gran, after serving with Capt. Robert Scott in
Antarctica, flew from Cruden Bay, Scotland to Jaeren,
Norway, July 30, 1914, in 4 hrs., 10 min., the first to fly
across the North Sea.
Douglas Corrigan flew his $900 "Crate" from New York
to Ireland, July 17 - 18, 1928 earning the title of "Wrong
Way" Corrigan. 28 hrs. & 13 min.
